The connect with others blog post
So, yeah, we could have done a wiki, but like, who actually knows how to use those things? They’re just weird. And we do have a Facebook account, but you need to be on Facebook to use it.
So we’ve gone low-tech with a blog entry. Here’s how it works.
You want to meet up with others? Connect with people from out-of-the-way places like Auckland and Australia? Arrange that liaison with fellow insect-lovers? Just say hi to other Webstock peeps?
Use the comments below. Tell us you’re coming, who you want to meet, where you’d like to hang out, what your interests are. Let’s see how it goes.
Casting the UXnet at Webstock
UXnet Wellington aims to connect experienced Interaction Designers in the region.
If you are keen to take part ask for ‘Zef’ at the Provoke stand at Webstock 2008 (or leave your card). If enough people register their interest we’ll run a coffee-meet soon after Webstock.

I’ll certainly be at Webstock, and am even doing an 8×5 talk which is going to be awesome, but I am still utterly unprepared…
Looking forward to what is described in the programme as “general merriment” while I try to make sense of all the intelligent and inspirational ideas being thrown around…
Also I have to point out that 1:30pm – 2:20pm on Friday looks like an impossible choice! All the topics look like something I would want to go see 🙂
* Anyone who lives/works in the Queenstown/Central Otago area.
* Anyone who can help me write an OpenID consumer that works (Simon Willison, halp!).
* Bassdroppers (Duncan, let’s actually meet this time).
* People who like bullet-points.
* People who like the web 🙂
* I wanted to meet Derek and Heather 🙁
Musicians! I play bass guitar. Who wants to get together for a jam?
I’m stoked to meet all the Kiwis in this business. I’m an American over here for a bit and haven’t really found much in the way of contract web work, but I know it must exist and the people who do it are out there! It’s time to network! Woo!
Anyone up for a hangout Wednesday night before the “Conference Proper” starts up? I’m sure there must be a Wellingtonian coming who can take us to a nice bar downtown. Right?
I’ll be watching out for laptops and other geekery at my hostel so I can spot fellow attendees!
I propose that basically each day after webstock workshops (Mon – Weds) we meet at Leuven, Wellington’s Belgian Beer Cafe in Featherston Street.
Basically, anyone keen/in town meet there 5.30pm onwards and we can hang out and find people who are into what we are into – or just drink some nice beer!
We went there last time before the conference and it worked out well.

Thoughts?
@Amanda
Sounds good. I was going to recommend the Matterhorn and I want to check out Mighty Mighty, but those could be extra-curricula activities.
@Amanda – Leuven sounds good Mon – Wed nights. Let’s make that the official unofficial Webstock hangout bar.
@Walter Matterhorn and Mighty Mighty (esp Mighty Mighty) are great for post-Leuven activities!
There will be an official Webstock hangout bar on Friday night after the dinner. Details soon.
Awesome! Looking forward to it! Flying up mid-Wednesday. Enough time to get to the Hostel and dump the gear before taking a stroll around the waterfront and ending up at Leuven.
OK so Leuven has proven to be a bit of an unpopular choice – Mighty Mighty (above Mr Bun in Cuba Street) has been nominated. Hopefully people see this…not sure if anyone is signed up to this entry? Fingers crossed!
Mighty Mighty is at its best on a Weds or Thurs… If it gets too packed, there’s always Matterhorn next door or Plum Cafe across the road…
Hmm, okay, so don’t show up at Leuven tonight? Mighty Mighty at least is right next to where I’m staying it seems. Whatever, I’m up for a wander tonight in the city 🙂
* writing down names and locations!
