I’m immensely impressed with the style of the conference. The people behind it have correctly deduced that you don’t get a bunch of tech conference stars to fly across the Pacific by being ordinary. It’s not just the organisation, it’s the richness of the branding around it. …
The branding extended even to the speakers’ dinner, at Martin Bosley’s Yacht Club Restaurant, where we arrived on Wednesday night to find personalised pounamo carvings for the first-time guests and lovely little framed works for the returning speakers. The table was set with Webstock-branded menus. The food was fabulous.
“These people,” said one of the visitors, “put more effort into the speakers’ dinner than O’Reilly puts into an entire conference.”
I suspect everyone was as exhausted on Saturday after Webstock as I was, but still, some bloggers have been quick to make their comments. Up first is WebWeaver:
I love the fact that everyone’s smiling and happy at Webstock, I love the fact that every speaker has something new and fascinating and useful to share, I love the fact that I can reconnect with (and get hugs from) 50 people I know but haven’t seen for ages (and can take a sneaky peek at their nametag if I can’t remember their names) and that I have the chance to meet 50 (or 500) new people I didn’t know before.
Thanks to all of our speakers. Your commitment and passion and openness made for a marvelous event. We loved every one of your presentations and were so pleased that those from overseas made the long trip to New Zealand. We hope you all had a wonderful time.
Thanks to our sponsors. Your support enables Webstock, and the spirit in which you were all involved fitted perfectly with what Webstock’s all about.
Thanks to everyone who helped us out – suppliers, volunteers, those at the registration desk, those recording the conference. Something like Webstock is not created alone.
Mostly, thanks to everyone who attended. You made Webstock. The palpable buzz at the closing dinner and after-match function will stay with us for a long time. We hope you all had a fantastic time. And we look forward to bringing you more Webstock events.
We asked Sue if she had any ideas for a suitable award for the supreme champion of Powerpoint Karaoke Idol. It took her about to second to say, ‘It must be beautiful’. And it must be made within 1 hour.
But the key question was what medium to use? Sue and the Webstock team put our collective creative noggins together and came up with the one true answer for anything truly kiwi – Paua Shell!
So, after a good time planning, a trophy so wrong, so very very wrong, it could only be RIGHT was created.
We present to you the Webstock Karaoke PowerPoint Idol trophy of Awesomeness. Created in just under 1 hour its design aesthetic will astound anyone! The highly innovative mix of Paua Shell, Tiki’s, Dolphins and diamantes makes us believe that the winner best keep it locked away somewhere safe, as we expect it to win many international design contests in the coming year
